TOK SEN - Healing Harmony

In Thai, tok sen means to take off energy lines. It is a technique for clearing blocked energy that uses mechanical and sound vibration to work deeply through the fascia and muscles. This unique healing technique is found in the Chiang Mai area of northern Thailand (Lanna). Tok Sen is thought to date back over 5,000 years and was developed in Lanna, while acupuncture was developed in China. It is an energetic healing technique still practised in Thailand today.

Tok Sen helps improve energy flow and relieves aching muscles, which is therapeutic bodywork for myofascial pains. By tapping the body (using the wooden “hammer” and “pestles”), vibrations are sent through the nerves, muscles, and fascia to treat muscle and tendon pain. With light “hammering” of varying degrees of contact to the different body regions, the vibrations provide benefits by loosening both the tendons and the muscles. This improves blood circulation that nourishes the tendons and muscles, quickly releasing blocked energy and leaving a feeling of vibrancy.

Tok Sen Technique

A therapist’s fingers can get tired and sore, and with extensive use for most hands-on treatments, they become less effective. In Tok Sen, the fingers examine the areas that need treatment, and the work is done using a variety of hammers and pestles selected according to the area of the body being worked on.

However, the tapping is not the only important element; the “tempo” is also used. In most cases, the tempo is three beats: one, two, three, and again one, two, three. This aids in a deep, soothing vibration that encourages relaxation and release and penetrates long after the session.

Just as in a traditional massage, one can work on oneself. Of course, some areas are unreachable, and another person is needed.

Tok Sen Benefits for loosening muscle tendons and meridians

  • stimulates organs, muscles, tendons, and meridian lines in the body for radiant health and well-being.

  •  increases circulation

  • -relief from stiff and tight muscles

  • improvement of nerve functions

Releases pain from many causes:

  • Headaches from nerve problems, migraines, brain degeneration, blurred vision and hearing loss

  • Shoulder pain, neck sprain, shoulder tendon tightness, immobile arm

  • Compressed joints, back muscle tightness, scapular problems, and back pain due to shortened tendons.

  • Lower back pain, spinal cord inflammation, difficulty bending trunk easily

  • Lumbar pain and nerve compression

  • Thigh pain, hamstring muscle tightness, and patella dislocation

  • Calf pain, sole pain, and numbness

  • Arm pain, elbow pain, arm numbness, and hand numbness

There is a saying: “Young tendons—young and healthy body.” When the tendons are flexible, the bone structure is smooth, and the muscles are flexible and do not press on arteries, veins, lymphatic ducts, nerves, or meridians, all body layers are adequately nourished and function properly.

Treating the entire body is one of the best forms of maintenance. This has been established through centuries of application.

Guided by Senior Teacher Nataša Kovač, students will benefit from learning effective massage techniques and an Eastern medicine perspective on healing oneself and assisting others in their healing.

With the expert guidance of teacher Nataša Kovač, each technique will be introduced with slides and a demonstration. Students will then practice the massage techniques on each other, receiving physical and emotional detox benefits.

As a result, people experience increased energy and positivity, relaxation and stress relief, a stronger connection to spirituality, and possibly a release of negative emotions or experiences.

Participants often feel great relief from heaviness or emotional burden and may also experience relief from pre-existing physical discomfort or pain.

At the end of the course, students receive an attendance certificate.
