Reverse breathing is used to charge the body by increasing the internal suction, allowing us to collect energy from outside of us.
Reverse breathing is also used to charge the kidney fire/adrenal glands, helping us to use less of our reserve energy.

16:36 - 31:54 Embryonic breathing
Taoist believe that the fetus breathes energetically in its mother's womb. As well as sucking and expelling nutrients through the umbilical cord it sucks Qi from the universe.
Embryonic breathing is used to remind the body of the former ability to nourish itself with Qi directly from the universe. This is activated by increasing the inner suction, achieved by coordinating the 4 major diaphragms in the body, the thoracic diaphragm, urogenital diaphragm, cranial diaphragm and laringe diaphragm.
